Roaming North America

Genessee RV Park

We stayed here as part of a longer trip, and this park was great no-frills homebase while we visited the area.

Access to the campground is super easy being right off Chestnut street, which is the same road that you exit on from highway 95. We stayed in site number eight, which is one of two pull-through sites. In total, there are 8 sites, all of which are paved with asphalt. Interior roads are wide an easily navigable.

We happened to be at the campground during Genessee Days, which is a celebration of the town similar to what happens in many small towns across the country. There is a parade and lots of activities to take part in, and a short fireworks show around 10pm on Saturday night.

Being well off the highway, the campground is very quiet, even with it being right next to memorial park, a ball field, and the farmers co-op. Even with the town celebration going on, the only real noise we heard was during the parade (police cars, fire trucks, and the marching band), as well as the fireworks show that night. Of course, we were out most of the day, traveling to nearby Moscow, Deary, and Juliaetta.

One place you should check out is the Rivaura Estate Vineyard and Winery Located just south of Juliaetta, the venue is located above the Potlatch River, with stunning views over the vineyard and down the valley. A true vine-to-bottle, family owned and operated vineyard.

Connectivity

There is no in-park wifi provided, as this is a no-frills campground. However, we had pretty good cell reception via Verizon, and using our phone as a hotspot we were able to browse around social media, check email, and do some light web browsing.

Facilities

The individual sites are spacious. There is plenty of room to spread out and not disturb or be disturbed by your neighbors. Overall, the campground is very clean, and the grounds are well maintained. Trash receptacles are readily available.

Amenities

As I mentioned previously, this is a no-frills campground. There is no cable TV, no wifi, and no park-provided activities. Bring your own entertainment. But you’re camping, right? We aren’t usually ones to take part in park amenties, anyway. We are fully self-contained, and are usually out seeing the sites, visiting family, and other activities.

Rates

Current rates are given on the website, and range from $41 to $45 dollars per night, depending on which type of site you get (back-in or pull-through). The pull-through site we stayed at was $45 per night, plus tax, which brought the total to $49.

One thing to be aware of is that there is no on-line payment option. Rather, you give check or cash to a city representative. However, chasing down someone to give the money to, proved to be challenging. We were told by the person taking the reservation that she would be by our site at some point during our stay to pick up the check, but she or anyone else never showed up. We did let her know that we would be in and out, but she said it wouldn’t be a problem. We never got a note on the door, a call, or anything. We’re not trying to get a free campground stay, and want to pay for what we used, so it was a little disconcerting to not have anyone to pay. So, we’ll have to contact her or city hall (city-owned campground) to figure out how we can get their money to them.
