This was the end point for our recent big trip. The park has easy access from US 93, and is within an easy drive to Polson, Lakeside, and Kalispel. Towards the southwest end of Flathead Lake, it’s also within easy access to the west entrance of Glacier National Park.
All the sites within the park are gravel or grass, and pretty level. Our spot was at the top of the hill, with a nice view of the lake, and we only had to raise the back end of the Grizz slightly to get perfectly level. The power and water were both clean and strong, with no dropouts or spikes in the power supply.
Connectivity
Although cellular service is non-existent, the wifi in the park is rock solid. While it is limited to around 10-15 mbps, it was solid throughout our stay. With wifi calling enabled on our cell phones, we were able to place and take calls with no problem. Further, light streaming and web surfing were no problems. While wandering around the park I did notice there were access points strategically placed throughout the campground.
Facilities
We didn’t have a need to use the restroom, laundry, or shower facilities, but I’m told they are well-kept and clean. There is light usage in the mornings and tended to by the staff regularly.
While there are two dumpsters available for you to drop your trash in, the staff makes morning rounds to pick up trash from each campsite. Simply leave your bag in front of your rig, and they’ll pick it up and deposit it in the dumpster for you. A great extra-value service, especially for those of us with busted knees who can’t walk back up the hill.
The restaurant at the bottom of the hill has great burgers and huckleberry milkshakes. Highly recommend you partake of their delicious menu while you are there.
We also stopped by the meat store across from the restaurant. There is a good selection of flavors for jerky (beef and bison), as well as many flavors of cheese curds. The taco curds were a bit bland, but the jerky was flavorful.
The staff is great. They are attentive and friendly and seem to really care that you have a good experience. The two gentleman who escorted us to our site did a great job of helping back in, as well as explaining the amenities and site features available.
Summary
Overall, I give this site a 9/10, would stay here again. The only reason I don’t give a full 10 is the lack of cell service, which isn’t the fault of the campground. Besides, the stellar Wi-Fi more than makes up for the lack of cell service. If you are traveling in northwest Montana, this campground is an excellent choice for a night, a week, or longer.
